What are the visiting hours?
11 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

What is offered in the way of meals?
Residents are given choices each day. Special diets are available as well.

Can I have a television or telephone?
Yes to both questions.

Can I bring my own furniture and decorations?
Some pieces of furniture are allowed, for example a favorite lounge chair. Pictures and knick knacks may be brought to decorate your room.

How do I hook up telephone and cable?
Telephone service is setup by your family; the address is Room #, 118 Clinton Avenue, New Haven, CT 06513. All rooms have cable hook-up available upon admission.

When does the hairdresser come in, how much does it cost and how do I pay?
Mary Wade has two hairdressers:

Cindy is in Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. – Noon.

Nancy is in on Friday from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Costs range from $6 - $18 and perms cost $35.

Payment is deducted from the resident’s Trust Fund Account, as authorized by the resident and/or family.

Who labels clothing?
Our laundry department does. Labels can be purchased upon admission. 100 labels for $14. Clothing brought in after admission should be given to Director of Social Services or to the nurse on each floor, for labeling.

Can we bring in medications from home?
No medications from home are accepted.

What type of clothing and shoes should we bring in?
Clothing should be comfortable, easy to put on and warm. Footwear should be “safe”. No pumps or heels, sneakers are preferred. Ask a nurse if in doubt.

May we bring in food for a resident?
Yes. Non-perishable and in an airtight container.

When does the doctor come in?
The doctor visits both the Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Units every week.

How will I know when my loved one is not feeling well?
Through verbal expressions, behavior changes, change in appearance, decreased appetite.

Does the unit I’m residing on have air conditioning? If not, can I bring an air conditioning unit in?
The Skilled Care rooms are air-conditioned. The Assisted Living room are not, but you may purchase your own unit or one may be rented for $25 per month.

Can I hang up my own pictures and where?
We prefer to hang your pictures. Speak to the nurse who will place a request in the Maintenance log book.

How much does it cost to have fire retardant applied to my furniture?
Upholstered recliners cost $33.00 to be fire retarded.

What is the policy on providing meals to families after admission?
Speak to the Director of Social Services, at ext 150, to request meals with your loved one.
