Mary Wade Hosts Homecoming Parade
Hundreds gathered on Friday, May 30th in honor of Fair Haven’s “community treasures”, for a homecoming parade hosted by the Mary Wade Home. The homecoming parade was part of a week long celebration - Inaugural Homecoming Week: Community Treasures - Celebrating the Gift of Age. (May 26 to 30), organized by the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. Among the many community treasures that were celebrated during the parade we all of the older adults served by the Mary Wade Home, local veterans, neighbors, public servants, friends, community leaders, and collaborators.
“We want to help build community and with the parade we are bringing people of all ages and interests together as a celebration of what people can accomplish,” said David Hunter, CEO of the Mary Wade Home.
New Haven Mayor John DeStefano was on hand to celebrate as well as many area school children, members of the New Have Police force and the New Haven Fire Department.
“All of this is possible as a result of the freedoms we enjoy and that have been secured at the cost of those who have served, and do serve in the Armed Forces to protect our Country.” said Hunter.
